A fine art aerial photograph of a coastal rock platform, NSW South Coast, captured in challenging conditions on 30 January 2026.
Some images are earned. Ice Cap was shot at 10:15 on a rain-soaked morning, the drone barely airborne in near-limit winds, the sky heavy and grey above a coastline that had no interest in being photographed. What the camera found below told a different story entirely.
From altitude, the rock platform reveals itself as something ancient and geometric — dark stone etched by millennia of tide and weather, laced with misty whites where the ocean exhales against the rock, and alive with turbulent aqua waters that churn and swirl in patterns no calm day could produce. The location remains undisclosed. Some places are worth keeping.
Ice Cap is what happens when difficult conditions and a willingness to push the limits of aerial photography converge — a fleeting moment of wild coastal beauty, seen from a perspective few will ever experience.
Print Options
Available as an Open Edition fine art print on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308gsm or Metallic Pearl 310 gsm museum quality, printed with archival pigment inks for exceptional longevity and colour accuracy. Every premium print is expertly crafted and produced locally in the Illawarra.
Presentation
Framed prints are presented with a double mat and UV-protective acrylic glazing in your choice of Black, White, or Oak timber frame. Framed canvas and Metallic Float Framed options are available in the same frame colours, with Dark Oak also available for the float frame.
About the Framing
All frames are crafted from premium timber mouldings in your choice of Black, White, or Tasmanian Oak finish, with Dark Oak available for the Metallic Float Framed option. Frames up to A2 use a 30mm profile - A1 and A0 step up to a 40mm profile to suit the scale of the work.
Framed Prints are mounted behind a double mat with a 6cm border all around — an inner and outer mat board that creates depth and draws the eye into the image — and finished with UV-protective acrylic glazing to guard against fading and dust.
Framed Canvas prints are float mounted within the frame with a deliberate gap between the canvas edge and the frame rebate, giving the work a contemporary gallery feel. No glazing is used, preserving the natural texture of the canvas surface.
Metallic Float Framed prints are similarly float mounted, allowing the distinctive lustre and edge of the Metallic Pearl substrate to remain fully visible. No glazing required — the metallic surface presents its own unique statement and robust durability.
All of our fine art pieces are handcrafted locally by our trusted experts here in the Illawarra, ready to hang on your walls, straight from the protective packaging box.
